I love the origins of the Rockefeller Christmas tree. It wasn’t Rockefeller’s idea. When Rockefeller Center was being built, the construction workers got a tree and decorated it with tin cans, paper garland, and cranberries. This was in 1931 during the Great Depression. They decorated the tree right there in the mud.
People liked hearing about it so much that in 1933 Rockefeller put the first official Rockefeller Center Christmas tree on display and it’s been a staple ever since.
