The chickens had their first snow over the Thanksgiving break, and now their run is decorated and in full holiday mode.

I was a little worried about them in the cold.

We’ve had unseasonably freezing temperatures, but birds are built for it and they’ve adapted well. Plus we got them extra hay.

I did learn that we need to check for eggs a few times a day or they might freeze and crack. Lesson learned haha

My tween and I also decorated their run. We put the red bows on the outside since chickens try to eat anything that’s red, and both coops now have wreaths.

Chika and Betty seemed to really like their new decorations, and no one has even pecked at them yet. (Hooray for pinecones and silver & gold ornaments haha).

My 6-year-old wants to string cranberries and popcorn on a little tree for our chickens on the Solstice and I love the idea. We’ll be out with the fire pit going anyway, and the dog always gets something special too.
It’s been a magical year and our backyard birds have only added to the wonder.
