Websites are silly things. You never know if anyone is actually paying attention to them, but if you don’t have one you’re sure someone missed something.
I’ve been working in professional publishing for over 13 years and when you don’t have an agent, your website is a dear friend. When your work gets shunned, it has a place there. When you’re testing something new, it’s nicer there.
But my career has veered away from some of the paths I tested and tried so I needed to clean up a few junctions.
My children’s and fiction writing haven’t just fallen by the wayside, I pretty much dumped most of it off a cliff.
Nonfiction has always called to me.
Sure I love certain fiction classics, but there is nothing like the true tales of humanity and triumph over hardship that captivate me. And I’m finding that it’s my strong suit. I’ll always have plenty of kiddie tales for my children, but the publishing industry’s version of what literature for kids should look like is appalling and I just don’t have the patience for fiction as of late. Real life stories are too exciting to be ignored and I only have so much time to live and write.
So I’ve left behind the genre-hopping menu to focus on my books, articles, essays, and interviews with a nonfiction emphasis.
It’s cleaner, happier, and dog gonnnit, people like it more.
