The pumpkins are taking over

You can never have enough pumpkins. At least in October.

I bake pumpkins, the kids decorate them and we all carve our own come Halloween. I’ve baked so many pumpkins this year we’ve been well stocked on roasted pumpkin seeds. And this week, the week of Halloween, which I call Halloweek, is all about the fun.

So for our co-op Halloween party, my bigger kids painted pumpkins for the decorating contest. And we’ll be carving up more on Friday before trick-or-treating and then backyard bonfire time.

I was so excited when my 5-year-old said he wanted to paint a Clifford the Big Red Dog pumpkin. I’m not all that in to branding everything, but it was fun and cute and easy for him to do.

My 13-year-old found a perfect gourd to make a black swan, and her little brother, the 7-year-old, wanted to do his own version based on that design, but as a duck with feathers. (The feathers are courtesy of our chickens, who said they don’t need them anymore.)

There is no end to the magic that this time of year brings. I hope everyone is having a very happy Halloweek!
