This has been a rough week in comics.

The week before wasn’t easy either. Ed Piskor was accused of “grooming” and “sexual misconduct” by the usual cancel culture players and even if true (which no one knows) the allegations were minor infractions at most.
My husband is an artist and we discussed the situation. Being a journalist who believes that truth is all that matters, I wanted to hear all sides.
I know that all too often, online lynch mobs jump on someone due to rumors and harass them until the person in question loses their job, their family, or worse. It was cancel culture that got me started in reporting on current events.
The Colleen Oefelein debacle pushed me over the edge. While I originally tried to keep politics out of my writing at first, the fact that a disable air force veteran who volunteered with kindergartners was canceled for merely being a conservative was too much.
Anyone willing to disown their family, friends, or industry partners over rumors are subject to the same cancel culture hatred. And that’s why no one is safe. Because it’s not about truth, it’s about casualties in a culture war.
But early Monday, Piskor released a harrowing suicide letter. My husband shared it with me right away and we both texted him hoping he wasn’t yet gone.
We did not know him personally, but he left his number on the note and a lot of comic pros were messaging him.
Then, his sister confirmed his death that afternoon. I had hoped that someone closer to him would write something but the comic media barely touched on why he killed himself.
Piskor’s dying wish was that his story would be told.
I found out that plenty of indie outlets won’t even touch this story because it’s sensitive. And that’s why cancel culture is so powerful. It scares even the “good guys” into silence.
But American Thinker came through for Piskor.
They were there to help me give Oefelein a voice, and now, they’ve once again helped warn of the dangers of cancel culture and published my story on Ed Piskor.
Please read it no matter what you believe or how you vote. I wrote this for free and am only seeking to remind everyone that truth is never found in cancel culture.

Justice is never served by angry mobs who don’t investigate the full story.
