My publisher recently launched an event connecting authors and book clubs.
It’s a great idea. Each of the European Geeks authors are supposed to reach out to local book clubs in our areas and set up readings, meetings, etc. It’s yet another avenue to help writers and readers get together and share their love of the written word.
I am super stoked to be a part of this. I’ve already had a few bites and am working out details now. My hope is to schedule to meet with these book clubs in March or later so I can bring the full print version of my Embracing Entropy series for any one who wants to flip through it.
Book clubs are generally filled with book lovers, and a great deal of book lovers are like me, they love the feel of a hard copy. There are still a lot of people who think physical books will die out someday, but the numbers show otherwise. Print sells better than ebook formats. I love that.
Book clubs are a part of what is keeping print alive.
Authors owe them a great deal of gratitude. Word of mouth still travels faster than any ad campaign or new marketing strategies. I trust what my friends think of a book much more than I trust a blurb or even reviews. (Although I love reading and writing reviews myself)
And best of all these aren’t huge crowds. That’s not usually an issue for me; I have a lot of performance art in my background. But for most authors reading to small club who is more apt to listen takes a lot of the pressure off.
So excited to get out there and nerd out a bit!
