After a heavy writing session you crawl into bed. Even though you feel mentally drained you are goofy happy. Your writing sounded AMAZING and there were times during your session when you sat back in your chair and thought ‘I have been put on this planet to write literary gold – huzzah! I have found my purpose in life!’
Fast forward nine hours and you return to your desk with a huge grin on your face. After reading a few sentences your smile disappears and your mood sinks. Your writing sounds dire! Reality sinks in – you were put on this planet to write flowery nonsense!
Here are the reasons why this happens:
- Your creative high has ended. They are wonderful when they happen but all good things must come to an end.
- You are reading your work in the cold light of day. A harsh and critical light!
