I’ve been sitting on some amazing news for a while. It wasn’t 100% absolutely for sure, and having been in the publishing game for years now, I know to keep my mouth shut until everything is solid. But it is now!
Friday I got the notice that my non-fiction piece, English Escape, is going to be included in A Chicken Soup for the Soul book. The next one to be exact. It’s 101 Stories of Inspiration for Teachers.
I’m not a teacher (in the conventional sense anyway), but I DO get to pay homage to one of the most influential teachers in my life. He helped get me through one of the worst years I’ve ever experienced, and made learning fun. Teachers like that are why kids like me survived.
This isn’t the usual stressed-out, pimple faced teenage tale. I have plenty of those too, but this is deeper, heavier. You might just cry. I’m kinda hoping on it. Mwahaha JK (kind of)
It’s odd for people to read about my past because they see me as a bright-happy-ball-of-sunshine. Confession: there has been a lot of darkness in my life. But I left that behind or to be honest, I’ve learned to handle it. It’s more fun when you can create your own light and keep powering yourself with positivity. Ewwww-did I just get a little too after school specialie? haha
Non-fiction is a genre that I can write in with ease. I don’t write about myself to cope with anything or act like some kind of expert. This particular story is one I chose to share because I think it can help others, and I want to thank my old high school English teacher for helping me to get where I am today.
There is nothing I love more than acknowledging the people who have helped me along the way. For everything I’ve been through, there have always been people to lend me a hand.
The official release day is April 18th, but you can pre-order the book now. It’s a great gift for any teacher. I can’t wait to send a copy to the one who inspired this story. He may not even remember me, but I’ll never forget him.
