This Saturday I will be part of Writers in the Park. I love getting out and talking to people. Exchanging stories with readers is the best!
I was iffy about joining the St. Louis Writers Guild at first. There are dues to pay and it adds another obligation to my crazy life, but I’m so glad I did.
There are a great many resources out there to help writers hone their craft. Guilds are one of them. I recommend joining one. The events alone are enough to aid improvement.
There are writers groups and guilds by genre and location. I toyed with joining The Society of Children’s Book Authors and Illustrators, Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, and for a short time, the Romance Writers of America. But I genre hop so much it seems silly to commit to just one. That’s not to say that I won’t join one of these in the future, I would like to.
For now I’m finding my way with the St. Louis Writers Guild. They’re encouraging. A lot of the writers are more lit based which can help me with the technical aspect and I bring lots of flavor since I write different types of stories.
Anything I can do to not suck entices me. haha Working on upping my game is a huge priority of mine, second only to spending more time talking to readers and sharing my silliness.
