I really thought local reporting would be a nice slower writing job. And it is sometimes. But with what’s going on in this country today and the type of people who are drawn to holding office, there is so much to report on.
I used to think it’s better to trust small, localized government. After reporting on my beats for nearly a year now I say it’s never good to trust any form of government. This is not because I support anarchy or any form of lawlessness, it is because any time a group of people come together to make decisions for others they are human and subject to error as well as corruption. And the more people you put into the mix the worse it gets. So local is better, but it still needs to be diligently directed by the people.
Read my latest article about it.
“At this point, most of us know that the mainstream is propaganda. But even at the local level politicians are trying to turn reporters into their lap dogs, and I don’t know how many of them refuse to back down.”

I felt compelled to write this after the mayor of one of the towns I report on sought me out to tell me that I should run my stories through him before anyone else…
It’s insulting, to say the least. But my editor told me it means I’m spot on. I’ve got him shaken and that’s a good thing. He can read my work in the paper like everyone else. I’m no one’s lap dog.
