What do you think?
I’ve been homeschooling for over 10 years now, I’m teaching at our co-op in the fall, and when my publisher (Defiance Press) asked if I had some concept ideas for the cover art I was ready. Homeschooling is about utilizing every resource you can find. My kids use workbooks, notebooks, the computer and internet and so many other tools that this just says it all.
I love book cover designers!
It’s so funny because a lot of people who still have negative views of homeschooling don’t have kids and/or know nothing about modern homeschooling. And that’s exactly what inspired this book. I got into a long debate online debunking the false assumption that homeschooling is for rich white people or religious extremists. In truth, it’s a great way for minorities and people living in low income communities to give their children a proper education.
When I first started homeschooling it wasn’t a political stunt or a religious endeavor. We lived in a poor neighborhood and the local schools lost their accreditation. We couldn’t afford private school so homeschooling was the only way my children were going to receive the knowledge they needed to succeed.
It’s far cheaper than I expected and my kids are excelling. Education doesn’t have to be institutionalized. From what I’ve found, if anything, it’s much more successful when done on an individualized level at home.
