I was recently asked, “Aren’t you scared of ageing?”
It’s such a silly question because I have always looked forward to being a little old lady. I already love baking and crocheting and telling people stories, so I’m almost there and I find nothing scary about it.
When I turned 30 I was excited because that seems to be the age when you’re old enough to be taken seriously but young enough to still really have some fun.
40 sounds even more exciting. Maybe it’s because I’m a writer, and writers generally receive more respect as the get older (something about trusting the wisdom of ages or so on).
But when I hear people complaining about adulthood or fearing age I just don’t get it. I love being in charge of my life and having the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them. I adore growing and changing as a person and gaining knowledge.
What makes today special for me isn’t the fact that it’s my birthday, it’s knowing that each year holds more possibilities than I could ever imagine.
And cake! Cake is always a friend.
Adventure is my aim. I love hiking, swimming, fishing, roller-blading, chasing butterflies, climbing trees, and reading old texts.
I can’t skateboard for anything and I have yet to test my abilities on a pogo stick but there’s still hope that I can learn to ride a unicycle.
So no, aging doesn’t scare me. Sure I’m closer to death but that’s just another adventure itself.
If you’re the adventurous type then do something exciting today.
Because it’s my birthday!
